The new version of Microsoft's SharePoint site design framework will be released to business customers on schedule in early May, the company writes in a recent blog post. Microsoft also says that "consumers who purchase and activate Office 2007 will be able to download Office 2010 at no additional cost when it becomes available in June 2010."

ZDNet reports that the latest version of SharePoint "builds on the newly renamed SharePoint Foundation to deliver what Microsoft intends to be enterprise-grade features and services."

SharePoint developers have been eagerly awaiting the launch of the new release since February, when, according to Channel Register, Microsoft accidentally let slip details of the tech guarantee plan. The tech news site also reports that the latest version of the software will include support for 64-bit operating systems.

The beta version of all of these products remains available from Microsoft's website, requiring only a Windows Live ID to download. However, once the products become commercially available, users will need to purchase a license to continue using them.ADNFCR-3071-ID-19657097-ADNFCR
